AB Crepes

On a recent assignment, I ventured downtown to photograph a new creperie in Bellingham, AB Crepes. Opened by two Western students, AB Crepes is open late and serves both sweet and savory crepes. I think these guys are on to something! If you're in Bellingham, you should definitely check this place out. The guys who opened it are super nice, and the crepes are so good! You can read the Western Front article here.

We're on the Move!

It's official!

Tommy and I have found a new place to live, and will begin moving in ONE WEEK! Ahhhh! I'm so, so, so excited. This house has been really good to us, but after two years it is time to move on. I will be graduating in one short month and it was time for us to create our own place.

The house we found is great. It has two bedrooms, a cheery yellow kitchen, and a quiet little fenced backyard. On top of that, it has a separate garage that will be perfect for Tommy to play music, and I can get crafty. It's also about 5 minutes from work and super close to a park. I'm pinching myself!

Besides being totally excited, I'm also in a little bit of denial. I haven't packed anything or begun to clean. The yard is a mess, and we need to get it in tip-top shape. I gotta get going!

I know it has been really quiet around here, and for that I'm sorry. I hope I can find some spare time for posts between school, my two jobs and moving. We will see how it goes! Just wanted to give a big thank you to my lovely readers for bearing with me!

DIY Nail Polish from Pigment

Nail art has really taken off in the past year or so. While I fully support all the cute nail art, my nails have never been a huge priority to me. Of course I love getting my nails done, but this happens probably once or twice a year. I never really buy polish and do it myself either; I always scuff them up right after I paint them and it drives me nuts.

Lately though, I have been inspired by all the great nail ideas out there. I have even started to accumulate a little polish collection! When I saw this post by Keiko Lynn, about how to make your own nail color out of pigment and clear polish, I had to give it a try!

You need:
Makeup pigment (I  used MAC's "Melon")
Clear polish or top coat
Something to mix it in
Something to mix with (I used a bobby pin)
Nail polish remover to clean your brush

1. Pour some pigment into your mixing container, and add your clear polish. I used a bobby pin to mix the two together. There wasn't much rhyme or reason to the amounts I used. Basically enough polish to get the right consistency, and enough pigment to get a good amount of color. I tested this by smearing some on a piece of paper.

2. Paint nails! I did two coats, then cleaned off my brush. Definitely need nail polish remover for cleaning your brush! Once clean, do a top coat to seal color.

And voila! So easy. I'm sure it would be fun to mix pigments together to create a custom color, or add the pigment to a colored nail polish!

Pop of Pink

I have noticed a trend with some of my pins lately...lots of pink! This is a little odd, because it's not normally a color I gravitate to. I'm sure the warmer weather has something to do with it. Not that it was warm today...pretty grey and drizzly up here in Bellingham.

Oh, please leave your pinterest url! I'm looking to broaden my pinterest horizons with some new people to follow!

Oh how I love this dress. It's the perfect color of pink! Anthropologie, why must you be out of my price range?

These strawberry milk whoopie pies are oh so cute! Love the sprinkle swirl.

Love the shapes and colors. Triangles are such a big trend right now, it's nice to see them done in a slightly different way. The imperfection of the paint drips is a nice touch.

Such a great mixture of patterns going on here with the stripes and mini polka dots. And of course, who doesn't want a pair of mint jeans this spring?

Artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude are known for their pieces involving the environment and fabric. This is piece is called Surrounded Islands, and involved spreading pink fabric around eleven islands in Miami's Biscayne Bay. So cool!

I've been searching for a new couch for a few weeks now. This would be perfect!

Cute arrow print. Yup.

Not only is this dress adorable, but it looks so easy to wear. No worrying about bra straps or cold shoulders!

The flowers are beautiful, but I would love to have that painting behind them!

Strawberry lemonade cupcakes. Nom nom.

Pink fridge! I like that they kept the rest of the kitchen very clean to let the cute appliances shine.

Miss Whatcom County

Earlier in the week I got the opportunity to shoot some pictures of Miss Whatcom County, Kimball Gainor. It was definitely one of my favorite assignments so far, Kimball is such a doll! We actually used to work together at Delias a few years ago, so it was a lot of fun to take some pictures and catch up a bit.

Kimball had never competed in pageants before being crowned Miss Whatcom , but she is so beautiful and kind that it doesn't surprise me one bit that she went home with the title! You can read her story (she rapped her interview!) in the Western Front here.

unicorn parade

  Thermal: Forever 21
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Scarf: Delia*s

Holy wrinkles, batman! It's amazing how a little wrinkle in real life looks about a million times worse in a picture. Haha. My sister snapped this photos for me when she was up a few days ago. The weather has been getting so nice, but a jacket or long sleeved shirt is still necessary. A scarf...probably not. But I hold on to those things for as long as I can. It's my security blanket!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph the sailing team on Lake Whatcom. It was such a great day for it weather-wise, and I hadn't been on a boat in a while. I will be sharing those photos soon; some turned out pretty neat!

Tomorrow is another full day of school and work. I like keeping busy, but I also hate constantly thinking, "just make it through the day!" I worry that when I'm old, I'm going to look back and curse myself for wishing away so many of my younger days. Anybody else feel like this?

A Somewhat Successful Attempt at Dying Easter Eggs Naturally

Not every craft project turns out perfect, especially when it's your first attempt. After seeing all the neat ideas for egg decorations on pinterest, I felt inspired to decorate some eggs for the first time in a few years. But silly me, I forgot to buy egg dye! A quick search led me to this post by The Kitchn on how to dye eggs naturally.

I had some red cabbage in my fridge, so I gave it a try. I followed the directions from The Kitchn, but in case you're lazy and don't want to click on it, here's what I did.

1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
2. Chop about 1/4 of a head of red cabbage and add to water.
3. Let cook in boiling water for a few minutes, then cover and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
4. Strain cabbage, and collect dyed water in the bowl you want to dye your eggs in.
5. Let water sit for about 20 minutes to cool, and then add 4 tablespoons of vinegar (I used red wine vinegar).
6. Add eggs, and let sit in dye for a few hours or until they have reached your desired color.

The color I ended up with was a nice light blue. I used both white and brown eggs to see the end result for both, and the white eggs turned out much better. The brown eggs resulted in a greenish/greyish/blue.

Here is where things went awry. I taped some triangles to my eggs using electrical tape in order to make them a little more festive. This idea came from my aunt Britta's blog, who made some really cute easter eggs using tape. The trouble was that since my eggs soaked in the dye for so long (about 3-4 hours) the tape started to peel off, resulting in less than perfect (safe to say crappy) shapes. Bummer.

Do you see that one good triangle!? The triangle was my pride and joy.

Oh they just look kinda sad, don't they? All in all, I think I will try dying eggs naturally again, but I will probably leave the decorating for after the soak. Have any of you guys tried dying eggs with natural dyes? Did it work for you?

sister style // white to black

Blouse: Kensie
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Not Rated
Sweater tights: Hue (from Macy's)

Amber and Leia came up last night, and she looked so cute I had to snap a few pictures. She dyed the tips of her hair dark, and I absolutely love it! I used to rock the black under the blonde, and every now and then I miss it. We munched on chocolate covered pretzels and gummi bears, watched some New Girl and laughed at silly things on reddit.

Do you guys have any fun Easter plans? Usually my family spends it at my grandma's house, but she is down in Arizona so Tommy and I may have our own Easter together. I'm thinking about trying out some of the fun egg decorating ideas that I have seen on Pinterest, and making something delicious in my crock-pot. If you guys know of any amazing crock-pot recipes, please send them my way! There are so many out there, it's hard to choose one!

Recent Pins

Yikes...I haven't updated in a week. I have been so busy between work, school and this new job at the newspaper that I haven't had any time to sit down and write a post, much less take pictures to create a post. So here is my, "I haven't posted in forever...and I haven't created any new content," solution: recent pins!

I love this print by Hans Peter Sundquist. Such fun colors and shapes!

Let's be honest with ourselves...muffins are cake for breakfast. And if you're going to have cake for breakfast, it might as well be chocolate.

I love everything about this dining room. Those green wine glasses are amazing!

I love how dreamy this picture is. I would also enjoy stealing her hair.

I have the intention to make most of the food I pin, but this is one recipe I am determined to make. This overnight no-cook refrigerator oatmeal looks so good, and has chai seeds! Yuuum.

This large stamp designed by Emma Robertson is so cute! It seems like it would be a really quick and easy way to make your envelopes feel special.

I haven't decorated Easter eggs in a while, and I don't think I would be able to do anything this intricate...but it may be worth a shot!

These boots would be perfect for those rainy Bellingham days!

I don't think any Swedish meatballs can compare to my grandma's...but these look so tasty.
