Society6 Collage Favorites

Happy Fourth of July! Hope you are spending the day enjoying some sun, eating a hotdog or two, and maybe catching some fireworks. Tommy and I are spending today at his parents house where I plan on eating my weight in ribs and relaxing by the lake.

Today I thought it would be cool to share some of my favorite artists on Society6. If you're unfamiliar with the site, it's basically a place where artists can sell their artwork. My favorite thing about the site is the wide range of art, and the fact that you can buy it as a print, pillow, phone case, stretched canvas, ipad case or several other options! Really neat. I just bought this pillow case today :)

There are a lot of different categories of artwork, but collage is probably one of my favorites.  It  has such a cool vintagey vibe to it, and yet can sometimes feel a bit creepy and hallow. I love it when art makes me feel different things at once. Definitely check some of these artists out, they all have really cool images that I didn't include. Do you have a particular kind of art you feel especially drawn to?

Chihuly Garden and Glass: Part Three

   Okay, last Chihuly post!

The last part of the exhibit was the "Glass House," and outside garden area. Without a doubt, the Glass House is the highlight of all the galleries. The sculpture is 100 ft long, and frames the Space Needle with over a thousand orange, red, and yellow plates. Directly outside the Glass House is a huge yellow glass sculpture, situated perfectly under the Space Needle.

It was really lucky that it wasn't raining! It had poured the day before, so I was mentally preparing to get soaked while walking through the garden area. Thanks Seattle sunshine for making an appearance!

Chihuly Garden and Glass: Part Two

Here are some more photos from the new Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit! The pictures below were from a gallery titled, "Mille Fiori," a huge piece inspired by Chihuly's mother's garden. This piece looked like something straight out of Willy Wonka!

The piece below is titled, "Ikebana and Float Boat." This piece consisted of two boats, one filled with these spheres, or "floats," and the other filled with "Ikebana," which is the Japanese art of floral arrangement. Although the ikebana boat was beautiful, I loved the playfulness of the boat filled with the floats.

Chihuly is famous for his beautiful chandeliers, so it seemed fitting that there was a room dedicated to them. In addition to the giant chandelier in the middle of the room, one hung in each corner.

Chihuly Garden and Glass: Part One

Tommy and I went and visited the new Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit at the Seattle Center yesterday. It was amazing! Dale Chihuly is glass artist from Seattle, and his pieces are simply breathtaking. Located directly next to the Space Needle, the exhibit features several galleries, a theater, glasshouse and garden.

I'm going to break up all the photos I took into three posts, otherwise it would be a little overwhelming. I truly wish these photos did the pieces justice, but the attention to detail and size was difficult to really capture. If you have the chance to see them in person, do it.

The piece below was in the "Sea Life Room," and was probably one of my favorites. So beautiful!

The next room, "Persian Ceiling," was another favorite of mine. The ceiling was made of clear glass, with glass pieces resembling sea urchins placed on top. This allowed the daylight to shine through the glass and light the whole room.

Oh, and thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Yelena James

"Allusion" by Yelena James

I stumbled upon Yelena James's artwork on Esty, and have been swooning ever since.

"Season" by Yellena James. My personal favorite.

"Season" attempting to brighten up my very beige walls. My shitty camera does the walls way more justice than the artwork.
