juiced up

Around the beginning of the month, I started hearing a lot about juicing. Several bloggers did juice cleanses (like Bri and Anne), Joy shared her love for juicing, my coworkers were talking about it, and I watched the documentary on Hulu, Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. I was a skeptic before, but after hearing so much about it, juicing started sounding pretty good!

Unfortunately, juice cleanses from companies online are expensive. Like, really expensive. Waaayyy out of my budget expensive. So when my dad told me he had a juicer I could borrow, I jumped on it!

I intend on doing a juice cleanse sometime this year. I was hoping to do it this month, but I need to start when I have a few days off work. I have a feeling it might make me bitchy, miserable and tired. I have also heard that some people feel nauseous. These are all things that don't mix well in customer service.

In the mean time, I have been trying to incorporate juice into my everyday diet. It has been fun trying different mixtures of fruits and veggies. So far my favorites things to juice are apples, carrots, mangos, spinach and ginger. Seriously, if you like ginger and have a juicer, juice that ginger up! So yummy.

Have you ever done a juice cleanse? If so, how did it go? I really want to do it, but I'm not sure I have the will power. Also, any juice recipes or fruits/veggies I need to try?

  1. you should do a journal of what you go through! I've wanted to try one of these, but im scared to get started. it would be great to know what kind of moods and etc. happen during the first couple of days

  2. I've been reading about this everywhere lately! I have a few friends who do grape cleanses once or twice a year (apparently it feels amazing!), but I'd never heard of juice cleanses since recently. Good luck if you try one! I :)

  3. Just found your blog and love it! I would get a juicer myself but those things are so darn pricey! For now, I'll just have to use my boyfriend's juicer.

  4. I watched that documentary and was AMAZED. I tried juicing back in early December as well, but it was hard to continue with the holidays and all. I just drank juice for about 4 or 5 days, and it was pretty tough the first couple of days. I tried following the cleanse system on the documentary website, but they had too many different ingredients and were mostly terrible. My basic method for making juiced is to start with a veggie base (mostly greens, like lots of kale, cucumber, celery, and spinach) and then add fruit to help the taste. Oranges and little mandarins do wonders (you don't even have to peel them!), as well as apples, pineapple, carrots, kiwis, and blackberries.

I need to get back on that juicing train! I definitely did lose weight while doing it, eventually felt better, and I am lazy and hate cooking, so it was perfect.

I hope this helped... The best of luck to you!
